There are several things that attract men into the house of God. Sometimes, we get cajoled, or have nothing else to do, or yet other times, we just try to keep up a tradition.
So because of our unclear motives, talks about working or serving in God’s house is often treated with much displeasure and non chalance.
Regardless, the truth remains that the decision to stay in God’s house is often with plenteous benefits, that may not be gotten elsewhere. Some of them include:
Service in God’s house is an avenue to get your motives right before God.
2 Timothy 2:20 KJV
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
There are numerous vessels in God’s house. There are vessels of honor that would challenge and motivate you into giving your all unto God.
An example of such for me is a dear friend, Marcilina.
In one of our services in church, she stumbled upon a #1000 note in between her writing book. She tried to recall who could possibly put it in there, but to no avail. Meanwhile, I was so excited for her and the blessing of favor upon her life.
Because of my proactive nature, I had already created a list of immediate needs the money would solve in my head, and was waiting to tell her.
But with great shock, I watched her package the money since she didn’t know how it came, and gave it out as an offering unto God. It taught me how to remain detached to material resources and to maintain a posture of surrender at all times.
However, there are yet others (sometimes I could be one), who like I like to say, are present in God’s house to help you prove the presence of the fruit of the Spirit in you. Because of our differences as humans, you might need in some occasions to maintain certain posture like tolerance, patience and forgiveness to be at peace with all men.
Sometimes, these people might be in highly placed positions and you’d have to learn to serve in love regardless.
At such points, you’d have to deliberately remind yourself that you are serving in God’s house, primarily because you love Him. And all things are for His glory.
Service in God’s house helps you discover, refine and deploy your gifts.
The media department is probably the last place I’d have thought I’d function maximally in. My journey into the world of Online Media can be said to be a coincidence.
After being advised a mentor who discovered my love for writing book reviews, she encouraged me to apply to the Media department in my church (E.N.I Koinonia). I did, but wished I hadn’t almost immediately.
I was so sure it was a mistake that I didn’t bother to go for the meeting held in honor of the applicants. But even at that, I was eventually reached out to, and asked to come for an interview.
Thereafter, I was absorbed and my online media journey began. This blog is a product of the numerous trainings and experiences I have acquired, and still am reason of my involvement in the department.
In God’s house, you get the opportunity to make forgivable mistakes that would otherwise be costly, because allowance has been created for them.
Your potentials are harnessed, and refined until you are ready to be showcased to the world.
Service in God’s house has spiritual rewards.
1 Timothy 5:18 KJV
For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
Every worker earns the right to be paid and God is no man’s debtor. He pays in measures we do not expect.
You experience favor, honor, access to the hearts of men amongst other things.
Service in God’s house gives you a platform to be endorsed.
As you consistently serve your gift, your influence grows within that sphere and it becomes notable.
Excellence is self marketing. The amazing part is, as you become more proficient, you get more endorsements, and the people still count it a privilege to do so.
Service in God’s house brings you in contact with healthy relationships.
One of the needs of men is companionship and understanding.
Amos 3:3 KJV
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
You meet people with similar interests and perspectives in the same unit/department which is an added advantage in reaching your goals.
Service afforded me the platform to relate with diverse kinds of people, cutting across different cultures, class and social strata.
It becomes easy to share your dreams, and discover those who will be extremely helpful in getting there.
The benefits of service in God’s house are so much more than we can perceive naturally. I’m a testament of God’s grace, and I’ve watched numerous life threatening situations, come to an end on account of genuine service given unto God.
Most importantly, service is motivated love for God. It pays to serve God!
